Woodstock firefighters gathered their boots to collect donations for Fort McMurray this weekend.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock firefighters raised $7,200 for the people in Fort McMurray.
Paul Graham, local firefighter was in awe of the generosity of the community after the results of the boot drive.
"Not only did they donate, the amount of stories that came out of the drive. People telling us how they were connected to Alberta and stuff. You know we thought here we are in far off South Western Ontario, we didn't really think we would come across people that were that closely affected by it."
Graham says their thoughts go out to the people in Fort McMurray.
These are the people that are told within minutes that they have be out of their house, it's terrible.
"People are really affected by this and Canadians are really stepping up. That's why we were glad when we were able to talk to the Red Cross and ask how can we help?"
Graham notes how difficult the job of those firefighters is.
"What we are doing, we are municipal firefighters. A lot of those forest firefighters, that's a totally different beast. It is exceptionally hardwork. I don't envy them for a minute."
