Workers at the General Motors Distribution Centre in Woodstock will get a look at their new deal with GM this week. Meetings are set for Thursday at Woodstock's CAW Hall at 10AM and 4PM. There will be CAW officials on hand to explain all the ins-and-outs of the deal. Workers will then vote on the 4-year agreement. It will see no wage increase over that time, but the workers will get at $2000 bonus for signing, and in years 2, 3 and 4 of the deal. CAW Local 636 President Ross Gerrie expects the workers will ratify. "The Ford workers are quite happy with it, I'm sure the GM workers will be very happy with it too." Gerrie says the deal "is a much better one" than what the United Auto Workers in the US agreed to. "They've seen what has happened, all the casualties in the automotive business. They need to remain competitive, and get their 30-years in and retire with a decent pension." There are about 90 workers at the GM Distribution Centre in Woodstock. CAMI workers in Ingersoll won't have to face contract renewal until next year.
