Dignitaries will be on hand to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Woodstock Lawn Bowling Club. The club will be holding an open house tomorrow afternoon featuring some incredible memorabilia.
WOODSTOCK - It is the Woodstock Lawn Bowling Club's anniversary this weekend.
Vice president Larry Brown says they are celebrating 125 years.
"It's an open house from 1 to 4 o'clock on Saturday. We're going to have the visiting dignitaries, of course, and historical things in the club house. We actually have the minutes of the meetings when this club was formed."
The club was formed in 1894 and featured some prominent figures like Dr. Weston Krupp and Roy Bigham to be among the first members to join.
Brown says the community's appeal for the sport has been due to its social aspect and the chance to play at a high level.
President Lorraine McLean says the club will also be hosting next weekend's provincial mixed club championships.
She says an opening ceremony will be at 8:00am on July 27th with teams vying for an opportunity to compete in the gold, silver and bronze medals the next day.
"We send two teams to the national championships which will be from September 13 to the 17th out in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. So we actually will have two teams from our club participating in the provincial event, so we will have a total of 32 bowlers participating on Saturday. If anybody wants to come and watch and see some excellent bowling and Larry and I will be around to explain bowling as well, so it's going to be a great competition."
This weekend's celebration starts at 1 o'clock.
