Kyle Baker is now the team captain for the Woodstock Navy Vets and he will be hitting the ice for the exhibition games against Stayner this weekend.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Navy Vets have selected a new captain for the upcoming season.
Kyle Baker will proudly wear the C for his hometown team.
Baker played the last couple of seasons with Cambridge in the GOJHL and Navy Vets GM Matt Fidlin says it wasn't too hard to convince him to come home.
"He is a Woodstock guy, I know when he was here when he was 16, there was always that thought of him coming back to play for his hometown team in Woodstock and I think the extra year of eligibility made things easier for him as well. It was more of him just contacting me and saying I want to come back home."
Head Coach Darren Young explains how Baker separated himself from the pack during training camp to earn the C.
"With him, I think he just came in and did everything we wanted him to do, he led on the ice and off the ice. For me it just made a lot of sense, it's an added bonus that he is from Woodstock and this means a lot to him."
Baker will lead the Vets in their last exhibition games this weekend against Stayner. The home game at Southwood is on Saturday at 1:45 pm and tickets are available online here.
