The Woodstock Rotary Club has donated $10,000 to the Ypma family to help make their home more accessible for 26-year-old Valery. She's currently battling a rare form of cancer.
WOODSTOCK The Woodstock Rotary Club has donated $10,000 to the Ypma family.
The cheque was presented to Ron and Shelley Ypma recently to help them with the care of their adult daughter Valery. Valery Ypma is 26 years old and has been battling a rare form of cancer since the summer of 2019 and has lost the use of one leg. The money will be used to help with bathroom renovations, to make things more accessible. The renovations are expected to cost $15,000, so this will be a big help.
Woodstock Rotary President Ifhan Hudda says Rotary is always happy to help.
"We had gotten this request from the family, which was trying to get some good accessible needs to Valery. We as a club supported this 110 percent. Part of our objective as a Rotary Club and as Rotary International is to assist families to ensure they have a better form of living."
Rotary Member David Harris says the Ypma family was amazed with the donation.
"The Ypma Family were absolutely delighted to receive the $10,000 in support from the Rotary Club of Woodstock Foundation and I was pleased to deliver the cheque on behalf of our club to this worthy family.
The family has created a GoFundMe to help them with some of the accessibility costs they are now dealing with. They were fortunate to find a low cost used van converted for wheelchair access but were still without funds to complete the bathroom renovation.
Ron Ypma says the support from the community has been tremendous.
"We are truly blessed to know all of the love and support we have received through friends, acquaintances and the community during Valery's journey!"
