Amanda Nelson ran 134.025 kilometres in 12 hours and she finished the 100 mile in race in 14 hours, 45 minutes and 51 seconds.

WOODSTOCK/ALBERTA - A woman from Woodstock now holds the 100 Mile National Record and the 12 Hour National Record.

Amanda Nelson competed in the Canadian National 24-hour Race known as Survivorfest in Alberta last weekend.

She knew right away when she broke the 100 mile record, even though the timing system for the race broke down.

"It crashed halfway through the race so nobody could see how they were doing, but I had my watch in track mode so I could track a lot easier. I knew when I hit the 100 mile record, so I posted that I unofficially hit the 100 mile because it's unofficial until they sign it off."

Breaking the 12 hour record was a bit of a surprise though. Nelson says the previous 100 mile record holder was the one who informed her that she broke the 12 hour record as well.

Nelson ran 134.025 kilometres in 12 hours and she finished the 100 mile in race in 14 hours, 45 minutes and 51 seconds. She says this would not have been possible without the help of her parents Peter and Diana Slager, her friends Mickey Scott and Cricket Scott and her husband Danny Nelson.

She has another big race coming up in July, not too far from her hometown.

"I'm doing the Persistence Backyard Ultra in London, Ontario next month. It's a 6.7 kilometres every hour until you can't go anymore. It's a elimination style event."

Nelson hosts a run club with her friends in Woodstock on Sunday mornings called Run Oxford County. She says new members are always welcome and you can find more information on their Facebook page and Instagram page.
