Police say the culprit was rifling through someone's backpack on Mill Street, and punched the owner when he got caught.
WOODSTOCK - A 27-year-old has been charged with assault, theft under $5,000, and failure to comply with probation.
This comes after Woodstock Police officers were called out to Mill Street, close to Simcoe Street, at around 8:40 a.m. on Sunday.
They say the 27-year-old punched the victim after they were caught rifling through the victim's backpack.
