Eighteen affordable housing units for seniors should be move-in ready by fall 2023.
TILLSONBURG - Construction is underway for a new affordable housing project for seniors in Tillsonburg.
Eighteen seniors should be able to move into the new one-bedroom apartments located at 31 Victoria Street by this time next year.
In order to make it happen, construction crews are converting a former meeting hall and adding a new addition.
The shovels first hit the ground last Tuesday and this project is owned and operated by the Tillsonburg Non-Profit Housing Corporation. Board President Ron Gasparetto says the TNPHC currently operates three affordable housing buildings, with a total of 161 units for seniors.
“Every Canadian deserves an affordable and safe place to reside. Tillsonburg Non-Profit Housing Corp continues its investment in affordable housing here in Tillsonburg with the creation of 18 new affordable units. Thanks to the hard work of our Board members with the support of various levels of government, more vulnerable seniors will have access to affordable housing.”
Rebecca Smith, the Manager of Housing Development for Oxford County, says this new build is great news for Tillsonburg and the rest of the county.
“We would like to highlight the dedication and commitment of Tillsonburg Non-Profit in the creation of affordable housing in the Town of Tillsonburg. This project was made possible through the support of over $1.7 million in Federal/Provincial funding, along with support from the Town of Tillsonburg.”
