WPS Chief Daryl Longworth Issues Statement on New Provincial Orders

WPS Chief Daryl Longworth says his officers will continue to use a measured, common sense approach when it comes to enforcing Provincial orders.

UPDATE: Woodstock Police Chief Daryl Longworth has provided an updated message to residents where he states WPS will not be conducting random vehicle or individual stops.

WOODSTOCK - Premier Doug Ford announced strict new COVID-19 measures for the Province yesterday.

They included new powers for Police who can now pull over vehicles and stop people on the street to ask you where you are heading and to provide your home address. Failure to do so could result in a $750 fine. Several police outlets in the Province have stated they will not be enforcing the stop and question powers granted from the Province including London Police and Waterloo Regional Police.

Woodstock Police Chief Daryl Longworth put out the following message on twitter this morning.

"Many in our community have questions have questions about the new restrictions. We are awaiting specific details of the extended order to assess what is being expected of your Police service."

Longworth goes on to say the Woodstock Police will continue with a common sense approach.

"Rest assured that our officers will continue to use the same measured, common sense approach to the application of the orders as we have since the beginning of this pandemic with a focus on gaining compliance through engagement, education and enforcement where necessary."

The new orders from the Province also restricts outdoor gatherings to only members of your immediate household. If you live alone you can team up with one other household.
