Young Athlete Remembered with #11DaysofAEDs

A year has passed since a young man tragically died while playing soccer, but his memory lives on in hopes of preventing similar deaths.

It has been one year since a 15 year old boy died while playing soccer in Kintore.

Andrew Stoddart collapsed on May 11th and it is believed his life could have been saved if the soccer field was equipped with an Automated External Defibrillator. Andrew's Legacy was created in his wake and to commemorate the 1 year anniversary of his death they are donating 11 AED's over an 11 day period. Andrew's mom Cara Schmidt tells Heart FM they are focusing on local sports fields with the #11DaysofAEDs campaign.

"We are donating to soccer fields, baseball clubs, we are trying to hit rural areas first because it does take longer for EMS to arrive."

AED's will be donated to 11 locations including the Ingersoll Soccer Club and the Sweaburg Baseball Park. Schmidt says all of the AED's are being donated in her son's honour and that Andrew loved playing sports.

"He would play soccer, he was on the football team the IDCI Blue Bombers and coach was gearing him up to be quarterback for this year. He was a high jumper, very athletic, he would build ramps with his bicycle and he was outside all the time."
