Students at A.J. Baker and Thamesford Public School are getting an up close and personal look at local government.
ZORRA - The Township of Zorra is bringing local governance to our students by holding a council session right in their school!
Clerk Karen Martin says when she reached out to the schools this year, they were very interested in taking part. "For local government week this year in October we will be hosting two of our council meetings at two of the local public schools. One will be held on October 20th at 9:30 a.m. at A.J. Baker Public School and the second will be held November 3rd at Thamesford Public School. The public is still invited to attend these meetings."
"It's very important for students to understand all forms of government, all different levels," says Martin. "And we really want to get the knowledge out there about their local government as well as any information we can provide about the upcoming election."
Martin tells us getting this all organized is largely thanks to Councillor Ryan and his contacts at A.J. Baker and the new principle of Thameford. "The teachers and the principles at both schools are very keen and very excited to have us come in." Martin tells us the students are excited to see some of the mayoral bling. "And I know that one of the students had asked if the mayor will bring her chain of office, so I think that there is a little bit of excitement with the students as well, so we hope that continues."
