20 Children Confirmed Dead in US School Shooting

UPDATE: The shooter's identity is now confirmed as 20-year-old Adam Lanza. Authorities say confusion initially arose, as Adam had identification belonging to his brother, Ryan Lanza on him at the time of the shooting. 20 school children are now confirmed dead, along with six teachers and a gunman following one of the worst mass shootings in US History today. The gunfire erupted inside of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut today. Governor Dan Malloy spoke at a news conference this afternoon saying, "A number of our citizens, beautiful children, had their life taken away from them. As well as adults whose responsibility is was to educate and supervise those children." Lieutenant Paul Vance with the Connecticut State Police says 18 of the children were confirmed dead in the school, while two were rushed to hospital, where they died. The suspect has been identified in media reports as 24-year-old Ryan Lanza. His mother, Nancy Lanza, worked at the school as a teacher and is presumed dead. His younger brother is being held for questioning as a possible second shooter, according to a law enforcement official. The official also said Ryan Lanza's girlfriend and another friend are missing in New Jersey.
