UPDATE #2: Roads Have Been Reopened After Weapons Investigation

At this time the investigation is ongoing, roads have been reopened, the area cleared and there is no threat to public safety.

UPDATE 2: Police have one in custody following an extensive investigation in the area of Devonshire Avenue and Vansittart Avenue.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at approximately 3:15 p.m. a 40-year-old Woodstock resident was arrested after a nearly 19-hour barricaded person investigation with the assistance of the Waterloo Regional Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police.

The accused has been charged with weapons dangerous, assault with a weapon, and mischief.

At this time the investigation is ongoing, roads have been reopened, the area cleared and there is no threat to public safety. The Woodstock Police Service would like to thank the public for their cooperation during this investigation.

UPDATE: Woodstock Police say a man has barricaded himself inside an apartment in the Devonshire Ave and Vansittart Ave area.

Officers first responded to a report of a weapons-related incident at around 9:00 p.m. last night. Inspector Marci Shelton says the Waterloo Regional Police Emergency Response Unit has been assisting with the investigation this morning.

"With these types of investigations, the Woodstock Police Service receives assistance from other services to assist in resolving the situation. Waterloo Regional Emergency Response Unit has been on scene assisting with our investigation since approximately 7:30 a.m."

The investigation is still ongoing at this time, and members of the public are being asked to stay away from the area. Police have closed off the areas of Oxford Road 17 at Vansittart Avenue, Devonshire Ave at Light Street, and Vansittart Avenue at Vincent Street.

WOODSTOCK - There's a heavy Woodstock Police presence in the area of Vansittart Ave and Devonshire Ave this morning.

An active investigation is underway and police are asking people to stay away.
