Young ladies in Oxford County had a chance to get All Dressed Up last night as they get set for prom and Grade 8 graduation.
INGERSOLL - The Ingersoll Seniors Centre was filled with smiles and laughter of young woman from across Oxford County last night.
They were able to pick out gently used and even brand new dresses for prom and grade 8 graduation at the 13th annual All Dressed Up event. Every year the OPP and Woodstock Police team up to collect prom dresses from the community and distribute to young ladies in Oxford County free of charge.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register and are connected upon arrival with volunteers to assist with clothing selection, alterations, and accessorizing. Each young woman also receives certificates for hair, nails and make up services.
Event organizer, Provincial Constable Michelle Murphy credits the generosity of the community with the success and longevity of the event. Numerous volunteers are required to assist with receiving donations, planning, registration, participant assistance during the event. A similar program also exists for young men in Oxford County, and is sponsored by the Oxford County Community Health Centre.
Oxford OPP Detachment Commander Tony Hymers says they are proud to be part of this event every year.
"All Dressed Up" is a fantastic example of true community partnership. Members of Oxford County were approached to assist with the event many years ago, and they came forward in an incredible way. Their generosity has not wavered, and has made this experience exactly what these young women deserve. Our members and our community partners should be commended for their efforts toward this outstanding initiative."
