Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath got a behind the scenes look at Bullwinkles Eatery, during her most recent visit to Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath had the chance to tour Bullwinkles Eatery in the Friendly City.
Horwath got an exclusive behind the scene look at the pay what you can restaurant that operates out of the Moose Lodge. During her visit yesterday, Horwath also talked about her Dental Care for Everyone Plan; a publicly funded plan that would provide dental coverage for millions of people if the NDP are elected into power this June.
Horwath says she would deal with the Liberal damage to our health care system and address long term care as well.
"There are many many problems in long term care so if we're elected on June 7th - maybe I should say when we're elected on June 7th - we're going to expand the Wettlaufer inquiry to include all of the systemic problems in long term care because our seniors deserve so much better than that."
As an NDP Premier, Horwath would like to bring Hydro One back into the public's hands and reduce hydro rates by about 30 percent. She'd also like to shift the student loan program into grants that don't have to be paid back and introduce thousands of new co-op placements for students.
Horwath also had to a chance to talk about the proposed landfill, a project she believes shouldn't be forced on an unwilling community.
"There definitely needs to be an opportunity for municipalities to have a say over what kinds of activities - what kinds of businesses if you want to call them that - are forced on them. It should not happen that way."
When asked about the High Speed Rail, Horwath says she supports it but adds we need to determine a route that would tie communities together instead of cutting them in half.
