A Canada Day staple in Embro returns as the Highland Games will take place at the Embro Zorra Community Centre.
EMBRO - Ontario's oldest highland games are returning for the 87th annual Embro Highland Games.
On July 1st, you can witness great feats of strength such as the International Tug-of-War Championships, Caber Toss and Hammer Toss; feats of grace in the Highland Dance competition; and musical excellence in the Pipers and Pipeband contests. Alan Normand with the Highland Games provides a preview for the July 1st event.
"Tug-of-war has had a bit of a resurgence, and we have 15 pipe bands scheduled to appear, the caber toss and the hammer throw, but there is also a sheaf toss, so that is a weight over a barn. We have two sheep herding demos and two agility dog demos."
Normand details how this is a great place to bring the whole family.
"There is something for everyone on the day, especially for the youngsters. There are outdoor games, and they also have indoor crafting where they make little swords out of pool noodles and face painting."
Tickets cost $27.50 in advance or $30 on the day of. The gates open at 8:00 a.m., and everything should wrap up by 5:00 p.m. All visitors under 18 years old are admitted for free.
