You can walk, roll or stroll for Karis Disability Services tomorrow.
WOODSTOCK - The Belongathon is back for another year in the Friendly City.
It's a the flagship fundraiser Karis Disability Services which supports people with developmental disabilities in our community.
Dave Petkau is the Executive Director for southern Ontario and he says Karis is located in 16 communities across Ontario and Saskatchewan.
"Here in Oxford County, we have been kicking around since 1983. We have three supported group living locations as well as a children's respite program."
Karis is formerly known as Christian Horizons.
The organization provides a variety of services across the province including residential supports, supported independent living, and employment supports.
Karis will be hosting the Belongathon in each of the 16 communities its located in tomorrow. Here in Woodstock, Petkau says everyone will gather at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church at 10:00 a.m.
"We've got a little route mapped out throughout the community there and people can just do whatever distance they want. At the location we've food, some games, contests happening, and some prizes. It's just going to be a really fun time!"
The Belongathon is looking to raise $120,000 this year, with half of the funds supporting services in Canada and the other half going to projects overseas. Karis is looking to fund an accessible playground in Ethiopia and an advocacy campaign in Uganda to break down the stigma and barriers people with developmental disabilities face.
You can register or donate to the Belongathon online here.
Dave Petkau stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Friday, June 5th. You can listen to the full interview below:
