Bleck says she loved to see the smiles on the faces of the people she's helped.
TILLSONBURG - The owner of Tillsonburg's Enchanted Eats Café is running for Council.
Barbara Bleck has been living in the town for over two years, but she has been volunteering her time for her entire life.
Bleck's community involvement stretches many programs that she created while living in London. A lot of them are for those in poverty, including the Rookie League baseball program that allows less fortunate kids to play baseball.
"The programs I created was to get the kids that were less fortunate to understand that there is some good people out there."
Bleck says she loved to volunteer to see the smiles on the faces of the people she's helped.
However, Council wasn't on her mind until she got encouragement through listening to the concerns of those who spent time at her café. Once Bleck made up her mind, she was confident she could do great things in the town.
"If I could get on council, I could probably open my doors up to some things that I can change in Tillsonburg, because I have the ability to do that. I have the compassion to do that."
Affordable housing is one of those issues. Bleck has connections to Anita Prasard and Mike Creek who have created programs in Toronto that are helping less fortunate people find affordable housing while finding solutions to poverty, stigma and various forms of marginalization.
She says she has talked to Creek about doing a seminar in Tillsonburg on how they can implement those same programs in the town.
The other issue Bleck mentioned was the town's growth, and how Council has make sure the fire department has the proper accessibility and equipment to do their jobs.
The municipal election is set to take place on Monday.
