Andy Bathgate will be the bench boss for the Woodstock Navy Vets.
WOODSTOCK - We now know who will be the head coach of the Woodstock Navy Vets for their first season in the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL).
The club has named Andy Bathgate as the team's Head Coach for the 2026-2027 season. General Manager Darren Young says he's a Woodstock resident with an extensive background in the sport.
"As we continue building our program for the move to the GOHL, it was important for us to find a coach who not only understands the game at a high level, but also values player development, culture and community. We believe Andy is an outstanding fir for where we are heading as an organization."
In terms of coaching, Bathgate spent the past six seasons with the Halton Hurricanes AAA program.
He was also quite the player back in the day, suiting up for the Belleville Bulls and the Plymouth Whalers in the OHL back in the day. He was later selected 150th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL Draft and he also spent time in the American Hockey League and the East Coast Hockey League, in addition to a few years in Europe.
Bathgate is also the grandson of NHL Hall of Famer Andy Bathgate, who played for the New York Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins back in the 1950s and 1960s.
