Tina Young would like to push herself even further as the Deputy Mayor for Blandford-Blenheim Township.
BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM - She's finishing up her first term as a township councillor for Blandford-Blenheim and now she's running for Deputy Mayor.
Tina Young says she learned a lot over the past three and a half years and she wants to push herself even further. She focused a lot on increasing accessibility during her first term and she would like to keep that going.
"Ensuring we have some safer communities and safer roads for people in our communities has kind of been an area of focus over those last three and a half years, so I would continue to work on those priorities if I were to be elected again."
She would also like to continue to be involved and connected with the community.
"Peoples values, priorities, and all of those things change so it's all about continuing to be out there, involved and connected to our community. It's nothing new or different, but I think I would continue to work on that."
This will be the first time the Deputy Mayor is an elected position in Blandford-Blenheim Township. It has traditionally been a role that's shared among the councillors, with each of them taking on the responsibility for one year. Young says making it an elected position for the entire term will allow that person to dive deeper into the role, and be better prepared if they have to step in for the Mayor to chair a meeting or attend Oxford County Council.
Young is currently serving as the Deputy Mayor for the Township. She briefly chaired a township council meeting once this year, while Mayor Mark Peterson brought a Notice of Motion forward. She will also deliver the opening remarks at the Plattsville 175 celebration on June 20th.
The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
