Swatting is when someone gives false or misleading information to police to trigger an emergency response.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Chippewa Ave and Cree Ave.
The call came in at around 5:00 p.m. yesterday and there was a significant police presense in the area during the response.
Officers cleared the home in question and the investigation determined that there was no shooting after all, and this was a case of swatting instead. Police say that's when someone gives false or misleading information in order to trigger an emergency response usually to someone's home, business or school.
Police say this diverts critical emergency resources in our community and anyone caught doing it could face serious criminal charges.
Anyone with information regarding this incident should call the Woodstock Police Service at 519-537-2323. You can also submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
