Southwestern Public Health is offering a few tips for those who choose to wear non-medical masks during COVID-19.
OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health says medical masks are for health workers while they're working with patients with COVID-19.
They say non-medical masks can be used to protect those around you and from you.
If you do choose to wear a non-medical mask, remember they do have limitations and need to be used safely.
- Wash your hands before putting the mask on and after taking it off.
- Make sure it fits properly to cover your mouth and nose.
- Change a mask as soon as it becomes damp or soiled.
- Put cloth masks directly into the washing machine and wash on a hot cycle.
SWPH says to also not share masks or face coverings with others and if you are using a mask to not touch it or your face.
SWPH adds to not leave used masks on the ground or in shopping carts.
They say the best way to stop the spread of COVID-19 is to stay home, practice social distancing and wash your hands often.
