All of the performances are completely sold out at Theatre Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - There's a high demand for the latest production at Theatre Woodstock; Jesus Christ Superstar.
It debuts this weekend, but Director Tanya Thompson says you're out of luck if you were looking for tickets.
"We are 100 percent sold out! There is not a single ticket available, despite having added two full additional performances."
Thompson has been with the theatre for 22 years now and she does not believe this has ever happened during that time.
Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera that will feature 25 vocalists and 23 dancers, alongside an 11 piece orchestra sponsored by Community Futures Oxford.
Each of the main characters will have their own vocalist singing for them and dancer performing for them on stage. The character of Jesus Christ Superstar will be brought to life by James Callaghan as the singing voice and Jacob Larmour as the dancer. Thompson explains how this will benefit the show.
"One of the nice things about having two performers for every one of those roles is that James can really give it his all with his vocal performance while he's not trying to pirouette around the stage and Jacob is also dancing so fast and so beautifully, I can't imagine him trying to verbalize at the same time! That's true for all of the characters, so all of the vocalists get to give a really stellar performance and all of the dancers also get to give a really stellar performance."
The show is set in a back alley during modern day times. All of the vocalists will be stationed on a set of bleachers at the back of the stage, and all of the curtains have been removed to provide the dancers with as much space as possible.
Jesus Christ Superstar has been one of Callaghan's favourite musicals for quite some time now, and he gives us a rundown of the plot.
"The story follow Judas Iscariot's perspective of the Jesus's last few days in the biblical sense, so it's a very cool show with lots of high energy songs. If you already have your tickets, be ready for some wet eyes because the end of the show is very powerful."
It features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice.
Although Jesus Christ Superstar is sold out, you can still visit the Theatre Woodstock website to purchase tickets for their next production, The 39 Steps, which will run April 17th to 26th this year. The senior STAGES program will also hit the stage with The Addams Family from May 22nd to May 31st.
Tanya Thompson and James Callaghan stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Thursday February 18th. You can listen to the full interview below:
