Members of Oxford County Council have made motions to change certain aspects of the proposed budget for 2017.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council is looking to make some changes to the proposed budget for 2017. Numerous council members made motions to change different aspects of the $231.8 million budget earlier today.
One of the motions on the table is to take the anticipated surplus funds from 2016 and put it on the revenue stream for 2017 in order to reduce taxes.
Chief Administrative Officer Peter Crockett says if all the notice of motions are approved, the proposed tax levy could go down.
"If everything was to be adopted the way it's being proposed at this point, it's gone from about 4.6% to just under 3.9%. Overall from a budget increase standpoint, the actual property tax implication would be lower than that as a result of ongoing growth in our community."
Warden David Mayberry tells Heart FM about some of the other big topics of discussion at the meeting.
"One of them of course around what do we do with the overage of the city of Woodstock for their waste management system. Another one around is the county prepared to share in the burden of the court security system."
Council is also looking at ways they can provide the Fusion Youth Centre in Ingersoll with a grant of $132,961.
Budget discussions will continue on December 14th and there is a possibility it could be finalized on that same day.
