Canada day was full of fun celebrations for many, but the Woodstock Police had a busy day.
Throughout the day they received 44 calls for service, ranging from 911 hang ups, domestic troubles, mental health calls, vehicle collisions, and some by law infractions.
In one case three young men were arrested after entering vehicles and a garage on Cartier Drive. The men stole a gas can from the garage and went to Devonshire Avenue, where they then lit it on fire. One of the young men was found to be in possession of magic mushrooms. All three men were diverted as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Meanwhile Oxford OPP were busy as well on the highway. They charged 51 people under the highway traffic act after a week long aggressive driving campaign from June 26th to Canada. The charges include...
5 Seatbelt (HTA)
2 Distracted Driving (HTA)
4 Hazardous Moving offences (HTA)
13 Other HTA offences
3 Liquor Licence Act (LLA)
2 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)
1 Impaired Driving – Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
3 Other CCC Driving offences
3 Drug related offences
The OPP also responded to 16 motor vehicle collisions on Canada Day, with no serious injuries reported. The OPP would like to thank the motoring public for their continued assistance with calling in to report on going traffic complaints. Several of those complaints resulted in police being able to stop the offending drivers and issue appropriate warnings or charges.
