Jeremy Hansen will transition from his full time role with the Canadian Space Agency this fall.

OTTAWA - He's preparing for his next big adventure.

It was announced yesterday that Astronaut Jeremy Hansen will be transitioning from his full time role the Canadian Space Agency this September to pursue new professional opportunities.

Hansen is 50-years-old and he has 32 years of military service and 17 years as a Canadian Space Agency astronaut under his belt. He was also the lone Canadian on the Artemis Two mission, which made a historic trip around the moon back in April.

His his statement released yesterday, he said he will be transferring to a reservist role with the Royal Canadian Airforce, making this "far from a departure." He said this would leave the door open for creative and ongoing ways to support the vital work happening in Canada with respect to space.

Prime Minister Mark Carney thanked Hansen for his service in a post on social media yesterday. He said Hansen reminded us all that when we take risks and work together, we can push the boundaries of what we believe is possible.

Hansen has a local connection to Oxford County, graduating from Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute (IDCI) back in 1991. Before he embarked on the Artemis II mission, the the local school launched the Artemis II Explorers Club in his honour and you can find more information online here.
