OPP officers laid 19,133 traffic and marine charges across the province. Close to 70 of those incidents were in Oxford County.
ONTARIO/OXFORD - It was busy holiday for the Ontario Provincial Police.
Officers were on the lookout for dangerous behaviours on local roads, trails and waterways throughout the Canada Day holiday last week.
Between June 26th and July 5th, officers laid a total of 19,133 traffic and marine charges. This included 8,603 speedsters, 412 impaired drivers, 311 stunt drivers, and 243 distracted drivers. Officers also laid 1,454 seatbelt charges, 49 helmet charges and 11 charges related to marine safety equipment.
Looking at the West Region, officers conducted 5,097 traffic stops, and laid 4,372 charges. That breakdown includes 1,828 speedsters, 102 impaired drivers, 39 distracted drivers, 304 seatbelt charges, 17 charges related to personal floatation devices, and two charges for failing to wear a helmet on a bicycle or motorcycle.
The Oxford County OPP detachment accounted for 69 of the total charges when all was said and done. Local officers issued 13 seatbelt charges and they also busted 43 speedsters, 10 impaired drivers, and three distracted drivers.
