There will be a parade, kids games, fireworks, a car show, and more!
OXFORD CENTRE - Oxford Centre is set to host the Canada Day celebration in Norwich Township this year.
Dan Alyea is on the organizing committee and he says all of the fun will start with the parade at 1:00 p.m..
"The parade route will go down Middletown Line, through Oxford Centre down to Oxford Centre Road before it loops back around and finishes at the baseball diamond and community hall."
The annual Canada Day parade always includes a variety of community groups in addition to trucks, tractors, and fire trucks. Alyea says they will also have a special float this year, honouring the 50th anniversary of the Oxford Centre Fire Hall and it's members that are still with us today.
He adds anyone can enter the parade, and the lineup starts on Middletown Line at Firehall Road at 12:00 p.m..
The opening ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m., complete with a performance of Oh Canada by Vocal Rhythm Oxford and the Norwich Musical Society Band.
They will have lots fun kids activities over by the ball diamond throughout the afternoon, plus a car and tractor show over at the fire hall and volleyball at Veldale Farm. There will be a shuttle taking people to the different locations.
Fireworks will light up the night sky at dusk and they're free to watch, but donations will be accepted.
Alyea says the organizing committee would also like to see lots of patriotism throughout the village, so they have launched a Canada Day house decorating contest.
"It is open to all residents of Ward 4, which is a little bigger than the Oxford Centre area itself. We will be doing final judging for that on June 26th and the grand prize is going to be a Blackstone Griddle that was generously donated by Home Hardware in Norwich."
The winner will be announced during the opening ceremony.
