A group of Sikh's will promoting their heritage in Woodstock with a free BBQ to celebrate Sikh Heritage Month.
WOODSTOCK - April is Sikh Heritage Month and one group is hosting a special event in Woodstock.
Everyone is invited to stop by the Foodland plaza on the 28th for a free lunch from noon to 5:30 p.m. Organizer Naseeb Singh Santohay explains why he the rest of the organizers from the Woodstock Punjabi community are hosting this event.
"We will be letting people know who we are and throughout the world we try to do parades, similar to the Santa Claus Parades where our holy book goes on the street with massive amounts of people but here in Woodstock because our community is not that big yet we are only doing a food drive. So what we are doing is cooking food and giving it away free of cost to anyone and everyone who wants to stop by."
They will have music, veggie burgers, fries, soft drinks, water bottles along with vegetarian pasta and samosa's. Santohay explains why they are only serving vegetarian options.
"There won't be any meat because it is a religious food drive and we cannot involve meat in there, everything has to be vegetarian."
Santohay says he is hoping to see plenty of people stop by, enjoy some great food and come away with a better understanding of the Sikh religion and the Sikh community in Woodstock."
