A 48-year-old from Port Dover and a 55-year-old from Stratford face a list of charges including drug trafficking, flight from police, and killing a police dog.
STRATFORD - The Stratford Police Service has charged two people in relation to the investigation that killed a Woodstock Police Service Dog.
Officers tried to pull over a vehicle on Romeo Street at around 7:30 p.m. on Monday July 3rd. The vehicle fled from police and officers say the two people inside threw methamphetamine out the windows while heading east on Lorne Ave.
The suspects were arrested about a half hour later. One was found in a parking lot in the east end of the city, while the other was found in Shakespeare.
Officers closed off Lorne Ave in Stratford to search for evidence where they found 484 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of about $38,700.
It's believed that Woodstock Police Service Dogs Taz and Striker may have ingested drugs during the search. Taz later died in a vet clinic while Striker was able to return home yesterday.
Police charged 48-year-old Henry Karkheck of Port Dover and 55-year-old Gary Roulston of Stratford with drug possession, drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, obstructing police, mischief endangering life and killing a police dog. Officers say both men are known to police, adding Karkheck has a history of criminal charges dating back to 1991.
The Stratford Police Service would like to thank Taz for his service and is sending its condolences to Woodstock Police.
