The Salvation Army is hoping to top last year's total by raising $85 000 this holiday season.
WOODSTOCK - The Salvation Army in Woodstock is already starting to look for volunteers for the Christmas Kettle campaign.
Last year with the help of 90 volunteers in Woodstock they raised a remarkable $82 000 and are hoping to top that mark this year with a goal of $85 000. Major Stephen Sears tells Heart FM they are hoping to get the word out when they make an appearance at the Oxford County Council meeting.
"Just to bring to mind an awareness within the greater community that even our town council needs to be aware of the poverty issues in our community."
Sears says all of the money raised locally stays local and goes towards a number of programs offered by the Salvation Army for those less fortunate in our community.
"The goal of the Salvation Army is to reduce poverty and help people in a dignified way to get back up on their feet and feeling that things can change and change well for them. So these funds raised here at Christmas time here especially in Oxford County goes towards those needs."
The official kettle launch is happening on November 13th at the Woodstock Navy Vets game and if your interested in volunteering you can call Bonnie at the Salvation Army at 519-539-6166.
