To help those suffering from memory loss in the area, the Alzheimer Society is looking for your support.
The annual Walk for Alzheimer's returns on January 23rd and will be making stops in Tillsonburg, Ingersoll, and right here in the Friendly City on January 30th.
Executive Director with the Alzheimer Society Oxford, Shelley Green, spoke to Heart FM and says that these walks tend to be a lot of fun. "The name has been changed to 'Walk For Alzheimers'. We also have a group challenge, and this is a great way to get involved because you can make it a lot of fun. We try to challenge people's brains because we know that is now healthy for people's brains."
More than $122 000 was raised last year and for 2015 they have set a target of $125 000 for the event. Green explains the money goes to help both the person suffering from the disease as well as their family and friends. "We have a wide range of services. We now serve people - and have been for years - from before diagnosis until after death."
"We are going to be having our three walks again. About 39% of our budget comes in from fundraisers and donations. We're really asking our community to stand by us again and show their support," Green says.
There will be three walks in Oxford County - in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll they will be lacing up on January 23rd, and Woodstonians will be putting their best foot forward on January 30th.
