The City of Woodstock has started the process of hiring a new Fire Chief after learning that Scott Tegler will not be returning to the role.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is accepting applications for a new Fire Chief.
Former Chief Scott Tegler has been on a leave of absence since his parents died in a tragic forest fire in Tennessee in December of 2016. Mayor Trevor Birtch says the City has received confirmation that Tegler will not be returning to his role and they have started the process to find his permanent replacement.
"It is unfortunate but we definitely wish him the best in the future. Council approved last Thursday night for the CEO and Human Resources Department to begin the process of selecting a new candidate for the position of Fire Chief. They will be looking at both external and internal candidates to make sure we have the best fit for our community.
Jeff Slager has been serving as the acting fire chief in Tegler's absence. Mayor Birtch says Slager has done a great job as the acting fire chief.
"The acting Fire Chief has performed exemplary in the role and we would anticipate that if he was interested in the position that he would apply and be part of the process for the interviews."
