The City of Woodstock will be considering permanently closing a few roads at the next council meeting.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is giving the public notice about a couple of potential permanent road closures.
Woodstock City Council will consider staff recommendations to close a portion of Bay Street, north of Henry Street at their next council meeting on August 13th. The other possible road closure will be a portion of McQueen Street, between Reeve Street and Metcalf. Development Officer for the City Brad Hammond says the Bay street road hasn't been used for years. " If you were to drive by that section today, it doesn't look like a road, it's been closed for quite some time, the last time it was a road was when there was a bridge that went over the CN rail tracks and that was probably at least 20 years ago."
Hammond says they need permission to permanently close the roads so the City can sell them and open them up to potential development. "In both these instances we were approached by a neighbouring property owner that had interest in acquiring the road in order to further some development plans that they had in and around the area. In both cases the road closure really does not affect anyone in terms of access to their property."
Hammond says if anyone has a problem with the City selling these roads to contact the City prior to the meeting on August the 13th so they can put those concerns in the notes and make council aware of them.
