A company is facing fines in excess of $25,000 for fire code violations.
The fines stem from the December 2012 fire at an apartment building Hughson St.
During the investigation of the fire, the Fire Inspector found 26 different fire code violations in the building.
The numbered company that owns the building pleaded guilty earlier this week to 5 charges:
-failure to maintain smoke alarms in operating condition inside seven dwelling units (fine of $1,500 for each smoke alarm),
-failure to ensure fire alarm system for the entire building was in operating condition (fine of$2,000),
-failure to ensure doors in fire separations to five dwelling units were maintained operable at all times to ensure proper closing and latching (fine of $1,000 for each door),
-failure to prepare and implement an approved fire safety plan (fine of $1,500), and
-failure to ensure annual maintenance and testing of portable extinguishers was performed (fine of $,1000).
The company was sentenced this week to $20,000 in fines, plus court costs and victim surcharge totalling $25,005.
