The Police Services Board will receive close to $500,000 following council's recent approval of a by-law.
WOODSTOCK - Council recently approved a by-law for prisoner transportation and court security agreement.
The agreement was brought to council during a recent meeting.
Director of Administrative Services, Patrice Hilderley says the province will provide funds for the city transporting prisoners to and from court, along with court security.
"The province will provide funding to the municipality for court security and prisoner transport and any municipality that has a court in its jurisdiction, such as we do, is eligible to receive the funding."
Hilderley wrote the report and the report says the funds will be given to the Police Services Board, covering them between January to December 2019.
The board will receive $489,067.95. The funding forms part of the Woodstock Police Services Budget.
Hilderley says the funds will provide the Woodstock Police the resources to transport prisoners to and from court.
"It provides the police with the money to provide the resources. So they transport prisoners back and forth to the court and the biggest part of it is the court security that they offer, and that includes monitoring prisoners, guarding them if they happen to be put in cells, people that are charged, security of the court itself, people coming in and out and that's how they use these funds."
