Warden Mayberry updates us on the Walker Landfill Proposal at the Warden's Breakfast
INGERSOLL - It remains a waiting game in Oxford County when it comes to the landfill proposed by Walker Environmental Group.
Warden Mayberry gave an update on the process during the Warden's Breakfast. He tells Heart FM they are still waiting to hear back from the Province regarding the Terms of Reference submitted by W.E.G: "We're still waiting to hear what the Province is going to do. We anticipated it was going to be 2 - 4 months and so far it has been 12 months and we have not gotten any indication that they are getting closer to a decision. I'm sure they are, and they will let us know when they are good and ready." He adds he would think that the fact the process is taking a long time may indicate there are some problems or there is more information the Government has to process before making a decision.
If the Province gives approval to the project then Walker Environmental Group will move forward with more research. They will still have to get a health impact study done and other approvals before they can start construction.
Mayberry did say he wonders if a landfill is the right option to move forward because one of these days we're going to have to stop throwing things into the dump. Several people in Oxford are dead set against the landfill saying we should be looking at other ways of disposing of our trash and they even held a 'How to Stop a Dump' conference in May.
