COVID-19 Child Benefit Payments Going Out This Week

Payments for the next round of the COVID-19 Child Benefit started on Monday and eligible parents will receive $400 per child or $500 for a child with special needs.

ONTARIO - Parents in Oxford County will notice some extra cash in their bank accounts this week.

Payments for the next round of the COVID-19 Child Benefit started on Monday.

The money will automatically go into your bank account to anyone who received the support learners payments. If you do not get the money this week, you can apply for the new funding starting May 3rd with a deadline of May 17th.

The payment has doubled this time and parents can expect $400 per child, with $500 for a child with special needs to help offset additional learning costs.

This money is for every child between the aged 0 to Grade 12. Children with special needs who are 21 years of age or younger will qualify for the $500.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce says Ontario is committed to building an affordable child care system that is flexible and responsive to the unique needs of all families

"We also know affordable child care is critical to working parents, which is why our government supported the creation of 16,000 new spaces in 2019-20. We are also proposing to enhance the Childcare Access and Relief from Expenses (CARE) tax credit by 20 per cent for 2021, which would increase support from $1,250 to $1,500, on average, providing about $75 million in additional support for the child care expenses of over 300,000 families."

You can find more information about the child benefit and how to apply online here.
