The CRTC is asking for the public's help to improve the Do Not Call List
The CRTC is asking for the public's help as they try to improve the Do Not Call List.
Since the program started in 2008 the CRTC has received over 900 000 complaints from Canadians on the Do Not Call List who are still getting calls from telemarketers. Chief Compliance and Enforcement Officer with the CRTC Manon Bombardier tells Heart FM most of the calls involved an element of illegitimate Caller ID spoofing. "Caller I.D. spoofing is someone is using technology to either falsify their display information on the phone or completely hide it so the receiver cannot tell where the original number is coming from."
The CRTC has launched a public consultation to better understand the technical solutions. They want to hear from the public as to how the illegitimate calls are made and any possible suggestions to stop it. You can help the CRTC and give your say at the CRTC web site.
