Woodstock Police Detective Constable Jason Geerts is being remembered as a great family man who was well liked and respected in our community.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock continues to mourn the loss of a popular member of the local Police force.
Detective Constable Jason Geerts passed away on Friday after a courageous battle with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Woodstock Police Chief Bill Renton says Geerts was extremely popular at the station and he will absolutely be missed.
"Jason was an amazing person, he came to us in May of 2015 after serving with Guelph Police and fit in incredibly well. Jason was just an incredible person, he was so full of life, he was a true professional that had great compassion and an amazing sense of humour. Jason had the most infectious laugh, you certainly knew when he was in the building. He had a true passion for policing and the community."
Geerts was also a great family man who loved his kids and his wife dearly. He is survived by his wife Brandie, and two sons, Ethan and Brody. Renton says the mood has been sombre around the station as everyone mourns the loss of there friend.
"He will be greatly missed and his spirit will live on for years in our policing family. He was a great husband, father and friend to many, we will certainly miss Jason very much."
