Development Officer Comments on Downtown Woodstock's Streetscape Master Plan

The City has yet to set any money aside for the project, so it's hard to estimate exactly when construction will start or end.

WOODSTOCK - A City of Woodstock development officer has commented on Council's decision to adopt the new Streetscape Master Plan.

Brad Hammond explains what the City had in mind when the initial plan was presented.

"Redeveloping Museum Square is really about creating a more active downtown and providing people more opportunity to come to the downtown, whether it's for festivals or events or other activities."

The goal is to make a larger space to have the capability of hosting more programmed events. Hammond says a skating rink, a bandshell, a play structure and lots of spots for people to get together and meet will be included.

Hammond also mentioned that Museum Square needed work done regardless, and that the plan provides a way to do that in the best way possible.

However, the City has yet to set any money aside for the project, so Hammond says it's impossible to estimate exactly when construction will start or end.

"City Council basically agreed to the plan, so this is something that we are going to aspire to, this is something that we're going to try to do. There hasn't been any money set aside yet, and no timeline attached to it. That will play out in the capital budget process and not only for 2023, but I suspect for many years to come."
