Dogs and Child Left in Hot Cars This Weekend

Woodstock Police received eight calls for dogs and even a child left in a vehicle on the hottest weekend in 2015

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police received eight calls for dogs and even a child left in a vehicle on the hottest weekend in 2015.

Constable Nikki Vanleeuwen tells Heart FM they received eight complaints of dogs being left in a car from Saturday to Monday and one case where it was a child. She tells Heart FM luckily people notice the kids and the pets in the vehicles and called police right away. "Nobody was hurt, thankfully the public as soon as they children or dogs in cars they call police immediately, so we are able to get there quickly and assess the situation and thankfully there were no injuries this weekend."

Vanleeuwen says it doesn't take long for a car to heat up to unbearable temperatures and leaving them inside with the AC running is not a good idea either. Leaving a child or a pet in a hot vehicle can prove to be fatal and should never be done, even if you are only going in the store for a minute. Recently a police dog in the United States died when the cruiser engine failed and the AC stopped working. Vanleeuwen says all of the dog owners and the caregiver were educated and issued warnings by police.
