Woodstock Police are asking everyone to not get behind the wheel if you do plan on using recreational marijuana when it becomes legal on Wednesday.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are preparing themselves for legal weed on Wednesday.
One thing they really want to stress is to not get behind the wheel after using the drug. Inspector Paul Hess says they will be watching for high drivers.
"Impaired driving by drugs has been on the books for awhile and now we have more tools to enforce that. Currently we have a number of our officers trained in the standard field sobriety testing and we are also looking at getting an officer here shortly trained in the drug recognition, they will be trained to recognize the physical symptoms of an impaired driver, so we just have some more tools now than we used to have."
It is the same charge if you are caught smoking weed or drinking alcohol behind the wheel. Hess says they are hoping drivers will use common sense before getting behind the wheel after smoking pot.
"We are hopeful drivers will recognize the dangers of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and we are expecting the public to use good judgement. Our message would be to the public is that if your impaired, don't drive and if you choose to do so, then Woodstock Police will be prepared to enforce the laws."
Marijuana is set to become legal tomorrow.
