A young woman from Ingersoll is competing in the Pan Am Games, and needs your help to get to the Olympics
INGERSOLL - Oxford County will be well represented at the Pan Am Games this summer.
16 year old Hillary Elliott from Ingersoll will be competing in the Modern Pentathlon. She tells Heart FM she has been training for this since she was 8 years old is hoping to make the Olympics. "Definitely the Olympics, I don't know if 2016 is possible, but then again I didn't think I would make the Pan Am games and I did so you never know. I am also shooting for 2020."
Elliott will take centre stage on July 18th in Scarborough competing in fencing, swimming, horse show jumping, running, and shooting. The winner will be determined by the combined score. Tickets are already sold out and she was only given one ticket to the event which she gave to her mom.
Elliott says she feels extremely proud to represent her country at the games, "Honestly, it's an honour. It makes you feel really proud to be Canadian, especially having the games in your own country. It's just so exciting to have everyone come here and represent your own country right in Toronto - it's a really cool experience."
She is looking for some corporate help locally and needs sponsors to help her reach her dream of representing Canada and Oxford County at the Olympics. Training does cost a lot of money and the athletes are not paid. Elliott does have a go fund me page set up at http://www.gofundme.com/yh6y5w. If you donate as a local business there is advertising opportunities available to you through social media, posters, on her swag items as well as any other interviews or recognition you have in mind.
