WOODSTOCK - It will be the same old games, but in a new location.
The 81st annual Embro Highland Games will take place at Canada's Outdoor Park this summer, which happens to be right outside of Woodstock. The property is known for hosting Canada's Outdoor Farm Show every September.
Gord MacKay, President of the Zorra Caledonian Society says they have outgrown their old facility in Zorra Township.
"It seemed like the Outdoor Farm Show property had a lot of buildings, pens and facilities that would work out better for us and it does offer a lot more parking close by."
Although the move makes sense, MacKay says it was not an easy call.
"It wasn't an easy decision, with the games having been in Embro for the past 80 years. Our hearts are still in Embro but we think it's a sign of the times and we need to move ahead. This facility looks like it will work for us, it's going to be a challenge to get everything laid out the first year, but I guess we're up for the challenge."
The Scottish celebration includes highland dancing, pipe band and heavy events and tug of war every year. They're also introducing the Rugby Sevens Tournament and they're going to showcase local craft breweries.
The date hasn't changed though, so it will take place on Canada Day as per usual.
