A highland dance instructor from Embro got to work behind the scenes for an upcoming episode of Murdoch Mysteries.

EMBRO - There will be some local representation in the next episode of Murdoch Mysteries.

Tonight's episode will feature some highland dance numbers, which were choreographed by Embro's very own Sherry Sim.

She says one of the writers for the episode attended the Embro Highland Games last summer and that's when Sim's son, Maxwell Bish, decided to apply to be one of the dancers.

"He applied and was cast as a double and then they asked me if I knew anybody who would be interested in consulting. So I explained a few of my credentials and they brought me on for a production meeting the next week."

Sim has been teaching highland dance for 33 years and she is also certified as a worldwide judge. She had choreographed performances for the Thistle Theatre and Ingersoll Theatre of the Performing Arts, but this was her first time working behind a camera.

Sim's son was cast as a dance double along with Madeline Miskelly, another dancer from Sim's studio.

After the production meeting, Sim spent over 40 hours prepping for the episode, where she was given parts of the script

"I also was given some rough dimensions of a set so that when I was choreographing the cèilidh piece with the six dancers I knew the space I had and the interaction they wanted to see for good movement and obviously wanting those kilts to swirl."

The shooting took place at Sullivan Studios in Scarbourough and Christie Lake Conservation Area in Dundas in September last year.

The episode will air at 8:00 p.m. tonight on CBC.
