The Province has extended the emergency orders until July 10th and they'll also be removing certain restrictions on indoor sports and recreational fitness facilities.
ONTARIO - The provincial government is extending all emergency orders until July 10th, which are currently in force under s.7.0.2 (4) of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. They'll also be removing restrictions that limited access to sport training facilities.
The decision comes after consulting with the province's Chief Medical Officer of Health to make sure the safe and gradual reopening of Ontario on a regional basis can continue as part of Ontario's Framework for Reopening the Province.
The extension of the emergency orders will allow key measures needed in the fight against COVID-19 to continue, including allowing frontline health care providers and public health units to put staff where they are needed most, while also providing the government with the tools it needs to successfully guide the province through the next stage of reopening and beyond.
Premier Doug Ford says although progress has been made, people must still remain safe at this time.
"While we have made truly incredible progress in our fight against COVID-19, thanks to the collective efforts of our frontline heroes and the people of Ontario, we know that we must remain vigilant. These emergency orders will allow us to take action, if necessary, to ensure our continued success as we reopen our province and get more people back to work."
Certain restrictions have been removed by the government as well for Stage 2 indoor sports and recreational fitness facilities.
This will enable the facilities to be used by more businesses and organizations to train amateur or professional athletes, or to run certain non-contact amateur or professional athletic competitions. In all cases, owners of the facility would only be able to allow activities to happen in a way that meets public health requirements. These changes will also enable many sports and recreational organizations around the province to offer sport training programming again, helping more people return to sport in Ontario.
This past Wednesday, Ontario announced the extension of the Declaration of Emergency to July 15th, allowing the province to continue to make or change emergency orders under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
All of these emergency orders continue to be reviewed by the provincial government to determine when and if it's safe to change or lift them as restrictions are eased and more places in Ontario reopen in a safe and measured way.
