Police are reminding the public to check your blind spots as we enter bike season in Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - Spring has Sprung and that means you will likely see more and more motor cycles on our roadways.
Oxford OPP are reminding everyone to watch your blind spots and make sure you are aware of your surroundings. Constable Ed Sanchuk says motor cycle operators do not have the same safety afforded to them.
"A lot of times motor cycle operators do not have the same type of safety afforded to them as people operating other motor vehicles do, so when we investigate collisions, we are looking at serious injuries, life altering injuries or death, so we are just asking everyone to please do yourself a favour, make sure you are aware of your surroundings at all times and expect the unexpected."
Sanchuk says if you do see a motor cycle on the roadway, don't treat it as a motor cycle, treat it as a human.
"The motoring public needs to remember to check your blind spots, take those two extra seconds because those two extra seconds can be the difference between life and death."
Sanchuk says bikers also need to practice defensive driving and make sure you are always visible to the vehicles that you are sharing the road with.
