Fatal Collision Involving A Vehicle And Pedestrian

One person is dead after a tragic collision between a pedestrian and a car on the 401 in Blandford-Blenheim Township.

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as 43-year-old Damitri Baranov of Chateauguay, Quebec.

BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM - Oxford County OPP are investigating a collision on Highway 401 that claimed the life of one pedestrian.                          

OPP arrived on scene at 8:30 last night on Highway 401, east of Woodstock and they were assisted by the Woodstock Fire Department and EMS.

Police say a motorist was passing eastbound when they struck an pedestrian while he was outside of his vehicle, attending to his transport truck. The motorist failed to remain at the scene.   

The man was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries where he later succumbed to his injuries. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

OPP West Region Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) also attended the scene and they are assisting with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and one lane is closed while emergency crews are on scene.
