A new food bank pilot project is geared towards helping school children in the summer months.
TILLSONBURG - A new program looks to feed hungry children during the summer months.
"After the Bell" is a project coming to Tillsonburg's Helping Hand Food Bank. They were one of the food banks chosen across Canada for the project.
Coordinator Joan Clarkson on the need for the program.
"When they are in school, they have that breakfast program here. So these kids get a breakfast when they are in school. It's when they are not in school that the kids who really need it, don't have it."
75 snack bags will be distributed to school children each week over an eight week span, starting today.
Clarkson was very passionate about the program.
"I guess I could go on and on forever about this because I don't want kids to be hungry. It shouldn't happen and anything I can do and anything we can do to make a difference is wonderful"
The bags are filled with food provided by sponsoring companies.
